Eldar Rules dump from Twitch

Copy pasted from Facebook.

“From the livestream tactics talk:

• Shining Spears are down 6 points.

• No Ynnari in the Craftworlds codex. Ynnari armies don’t benefit from Craftworlds attributes.

• Dire Avengers are now 12 points a model (same as Rangers).

• New power Quickening, essentially Warptime. Pick a friendly Craftworlds unit within 18″ pf the caster. It can move as if it were the movement phase.

• Sounds like Guardians are the same cost (they discussed points costs for troop unit, said 60 points for base Dire Avenger and Ranger squads, Guardians are closer to 80 points (which is what they are currently).

• Warlord trait on the Avatar allows it to target characters in the shooting phase even if they aren’t the closest unit.

• Biel-tan attribute affects all shuriken weapons in the army.

• Warlord trait for +2 movement.

• Webway strike stratagem allows between 1-3 Craftworld units to enter the battlefielf using normal deep strike rules.

• Skystrike stratagem allows a unit with Fly to appear on the battlefield

• Banshee mask denies overwatch now instead of always striking first. They can advance and charge.

• Warwalkers now have an outflank ability

• Swooping Hawk guns are now Assault 4 instead of Rapid Fire 2, still 24” range.

• Swooping Hawks have dropped 4 points per model.

• Craftworlds can field a brigade for “less than 1100 points now.”

• 3 Dark Reapers are now ~80 points. Still have 3+ to hit regardless of modifiers in the shooting phase.

• Relic: When this models dies, on a 2+ it causes D3 mortal wounds. If those wounds kill a model, the model with the relic remains on the table with a single wound remaining. Only relic the Avatar can take.

• Phoenix Lords don’t benefit or effect Craftworld attributes. Can be taken in any Craftowlrds army without messing up the detachment bonus.

• New warlord trait: Puritanical leader: All units within 6″ of the warlord auto pass morale.

• Striking Scorpions down in points (didn’t say how much).

• “I saw a really nice comment on Reddit, actually…” Looks like they do browse the sub!

• No big changes to Wraithknights.

• Everything in the book benefits from the Craftworlds attribute. Hemlock Wraithfights of Alaitoc now have -2 to hit.

• Nightspinners down in points.

• Iyanden Warlord trait: At the start of the turn, roll a dice. On a 6, gain a command point.

• Falcon Grav tanks down by 50 points.

• Heavy weapons cheaper now.

• Warlocks are 35 points.

• Jain Zarr, all Banshees always fight first within 6″ of her.

• No changes to Storm Guardians.

• Empower psychic power: +1 to wound rolls for a friendly unit.

• 6 Runes of Fate. Guide, Doom, Fortune, Mind War, 2 other they mentioned quickly.

• “Harlequins and Ynnari will be in a codex at some point.” Implied they’d both get their own codex.

• Eldrad down in points plus some new lore.

• Windriders are 18 points with shuriken catapults. 28 for shuriken cannons.

• Ynnari rules packaged in the Triumverate box are the same as the index Xenos 1 rules.

• 15 points for scatter lasers

• “Tyranids are a really, really interesting book! We’ll talk about it in a couple of weeks ;)”

Looks like that’s it!

Biel Tan and Saim Hann Previews

Biel Tan and Saim Hann have been revealed in Warhammer Community and they largely agree with the leaked picture of what each will do.

Biel Tan provides Aspects with +1 leadership and all models that are impacted by the Craftworld bonus can re-roll missed 1s with all shuriken weapons. The leadership bonus is nice but not amazingly necessary, particularly dependent upon what Aspect changes have been made. Re-rolling 1s for shuriken weapons is nice across the army, larticularly given there is no indication that these bonuses are restricted like Space Marine Chapter Tactics. Is it comparable to the other Craftworld benefits…? Probably not but some of their specific stratagems, warlord traits or relics Read more »

ULTHWE in 8th Edition – A credible alternative to Ynarri?

The preview of Craftworld Ulthwe rules has been released! First a disclosure; this is my own preferred brand of Eldar, and the way I’ve modeled my own army. If you think you detect bias, you’re probably right: I’ve been repainting my army and am even wearing an Ulthwe t-shirt to commemorate the rules preview.

But are Ulthwe really going to be able to tempt this dying race’s players away from the sweet sweet strength from death to which so many of us have become accustomed (addicted)?

First, their attribute:

First Craftworld: Iyanden

The first of the Craftword’s has just had some of its details shared, and from this brief glimpse it is instantly clear that if this is an indication of what’s to come with the rest of the Craftworld’s, the Eldar are about to be a reinvigorated race.

I guarantee the meme on the left will make a lot more sense when you find out the first half of the Iyanden craftworld’s attribute.

New Eldar Incoming! What we know so far

Craftworld Eldar are about to get their own codex. The heavyweights of 7th edition have been fly weight so far in 8th, struggling with high points costs, overpriced elites, underwhelming troops and a huge range of named characters that have been very difficult to justify including in lists.

It has been an 80:20 codex -you can win with it if you take units from the viable 20% (hemlocks, farseers, Yvraine, waveserpents, D-scythes and a handful of others) and ignore the 80% that are a lot less competitive (dire avengers, wraithknights, falcons, a dozen named characters, rangers, scorpions, wraithguard, warp spiders, swooping hawks, warlock conclaves, warlock skyrunners, vaul’s awful support batteries, etc).

With that being the situation it is hardly a surprise that Eldar players are excited to see a new book on the horizon!

At the same time, any Eldar release is sure to stir up concern among the players of lesser races. The space elves have an unusually patchy history when it comes to balance, being overpowered almost to the level of invulnerability in a couple of past editions. What most gamers want is balance.

Will Gamesworkshop get it right this time?

The 25 Astra Militarum Strategems Reviewed

This is a quick-fire review of the 25 Stratagems that the Imperial Guard / Astra Militarum gained with their new 8th Edition Codex. It might also be the first chance some players have to see them, so take a look and find out what cunning trickery, explosive bombardments and off-table firepower those wily guardsmen have ready to activate at the punch of a button.

I’m going to grade them quickly from 1 to 5 stars based on a simple scale: to be 5 stars, it has to be as good as the amazing Reroll a Dice per phase that all armies and races have access to. That one is often under-rated, and frequently squandered, but used right it is $Money$.

Astra Militarum – The new imperial guard Warlord Traits, Regiment Rules and Points

Updated with clearer images and text. There is a new video out from WinterSEO where he takes a run through the new Guard codex.  There are some limits to what he is allowed to display in advance of the book being released, but even so there is a lot of detail in this video, which I recommend to anyone who’s looking forward to the new book.

I have grabbed some of the vital info that people are most interested in – in particular, the points (as much as can actually be seen), and the new warlord traits.

Codex: Space Marines Review Part 10 – Helbrecht, The Emperor’s Champion, Grimaldus & Cenobyte Servitors

Greetings, fellow beleaguered Imperial Guard Lieutenants desperately pleading for an airstrike on the Tyranid swarm about to overrun their position! Welcome to this next instalment of our Codex: Space Marines review. Today, we cover the Black Templar special Characters (and Grimaldus’ attendant Cenobyte Servitors). I humbly apologies for the decreased tempo at which I’m releasing these reviews but new responsibilities at work have cut into the time/energy I have to write. I hope you will bear with me as I bash on but at a slower pace. Many thanks in advance! Read more »

Astra Militarum Previews – Valhalla and Armageddon

Will post the warhammer tv stuff in a few hours but for now here are the copy pastes of the last two previews before it goes up for preorder.

Conscripts are still a strong screen choice but their versatility without 100% orders and maxing out at 30 per squad will limit them somewhat.

Astra Militarum Previews – Catachans and Mordians

Astra Militarum previews are starting with some Regimental rules and thankfully the handful of rules leaks we were sitting on have been revealed as correct (internal yay to self for sitting on them) re Catachans and Russes. Moving past me patting myself on the back (I may be operating on about three hours sleep these past 48 hours…) and there are some good signs for the vehicles of the Astra Militarum so far…
